This work anthropomorphizes the elemental anatomy of large, wise, old trees. When I encounter them, I feel as though I am addressing another human, as if it is almost breathing back at me. I chose to capture this essence through the use of copper that oxidizes with rain water. Setting up a clay base infused with indigo and ink forces the base to shift its tone as the water evaporates on the surface. These drawings elicit an emotional, activated stillness.
